Almost every dead lawn we are called out to has a cause that will kill the replacement too. Laying fresh sod over compacted ground, or into a low spot that holds water, buys about one season. The diagnosis is the valuable half of this service.
Chinch bugs are the usual culprit in St. Augustine here, and they get blamed for drought damage they did not cause — and vice versa. The two look similar from the porch and need opposite responses. We check before we treat.
