What you should know
Most yard problems in this part of Florida are water problems. Sand drains fast until it hits the clay layer, and then it does not — so you get a yard that is bone dry in one corner and stays soggy in another for three days after a storm. Planting into that without fixing the grade just kills more expensive plants.
We would rather move dirt first and plant second. It is less satisfying on day one and it is the reason the work is still standing in year five.
